Reception - Cold environments

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 6:36pm

Over the week we have continued to explore our theme ‘cold environments’ and further develop our story ‘Penguin Small’. We have really enjoyed learning our story off by heart using actions and a story map. We are very good at it! The children may even show you at home if asked. We have been finding out more about the Antarctic where we would find penguins and the Arctic where the polar bears would be found. We compared our own environment with the polar regions and used google earth to see them.

In literacy this week we turned into tricky word detectives and have been focusing on the words I, the, no, go and into. There were different tricky words hidden around our environment for us to find. This was a very popular activity this week!!!

We have also been focusing on ‘teen’ numbers in maths. We are really seeing the development of number progressing in class, especially the understanding of number. We represented these teen numbers in different ways and looked at the patterns in numbers when counting, using numcion and a large number line. Next week, we will be moving onto addition.

This week we also took some time to develop our drawing skills. We looked at lots of images of penguins and thought about the shapes we could see, looked closely at the different lines and then drew and painted them with watercolours.  We were blown away by our very own budding artists. They were fantastic!

Have a fab weekend everyone. It’s going to be a chilly one!!
