Reception - WB 7.11.22

Date: 11th Nov 2022 @ 4:00pm

Good Afternoon,

In our Literacy sessions this week, we have started a new focus story called 'I'm going to eat this ant'. We talked about the cover of the story and made predictions about what we thought the story might be about. We learnt about the animals on the front cover, especially the anteater. We talked about what an anteater is and what they do. We watched a video on them and descibed their features using new vocabulary. Around the classroom, we created our own anteaters and labelled them using the sounds which we know. Some children began to use phoneme frames to spell words and simple phrases.

During maths sessions, we have been learning about the 2D shapes 'circles' and 'triangles'. We played different games to recognize the two different shapes and used the sorting hoops to sort them. We went on a shape hunt around the classroom to find different objects that have a circle or a triangle in them. We also created our own circles and triangles using string and pencils. Lots of children applied their learning independently during Learning Time.

In the afternoon during curriculum learning, we have been learning about 'People who help us'. We talked about the people in our community who can help us every day, but looked specifically at the emergency services. We talked about what the police, fire service and ambulance service do and the number to call if we were ever in an emergency. This learning led to lots more role play and discussion around the classroom.

Have a great weekend everyone,

Miss Steen
