Team 1 wb 5.10.20

What a week we have had in Team 1. On Monday we began a literacy unit using a beautiful book called ‘Look Up!’ by Nathan Bryon. The children made predictions about the book after seeing 2 clues: a telescope, and a short animation about a Lego character growing up to be an astronaut. We also used the book as a stimulus for labelling images using our phonics knowledge. We have been looking at writing short sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. I wonder if the children could show you the actions we use!

In maths we have begun writing number sentences for our number bonds to 10. This began at the start of the week as someone had stolen all of the number 10 Numicon pieces! We worked out that we could still make 10 by using the other pieces. We then represented these number bonds using part-part-whole models, and finally today by writing these as number sentences eg. 9 + 1 = 10.

In our continuous provision areas the children have worked hard independently to make telescopes, writing down the things they saw through the telescope. They have built rockets and labelled drawings of their creations. They have also been practising doubling numbers in the outdoor quad, and planning story maps in the outdoor classroom.

In PE we made letter shapes with our bodies, and ran around during some group games. Our hearts were racing by the end!

We had a geography lesson this week looking at physical and human features of our world. The children loved zooming into the school using Google Earth, we even gave ourselves a wave! Then we went outdoors to see what physical and human features we could find. The rain started to pour, and forced us inside but this led to a great discussion about weather being a physical feature.

Our week ended with a super Mouse Mania watching a movie and nibbling popcorn.

Have a super weekend, Team 1. Let’s hope the rain stops for at least some of it!
