Team 3: 7.6.19

Date: 7th Jun 2019 @ 3:05pm

This week we have continued working on fractions in maths and have really worked our socks off- it’s not an easy topic and we’ve been trying really hard even when we were tired after sports day! We have also started some work on shape, naming and recognising the properties of 2D shapes.

In English, we are continuing our work on ‘Journey’, a wordless picture book by Aaron Becker. After making predictions about what might happen in the book form the blurb and some picture clues, we looked at the first pages of the book and used our inference skills to work out how the little girl in the story was feeling and why. We wrote diary entries from her point of view, including all our Team 3 learning and worked with partners the day after to edit them and evaluate the effectiveness of our writing. On Friday, we drew our own magic doors, just like the character in the story and drew a magical setting on the other side. We worked in partners to come up with noun phrases and similes to describe the door and think about what dangers might lurk in our different settings.

We learned how water is transported through plants and set up an experiment to compare how temperature affects the rate that water is transported but we are yet to find out the results. We also looked at how plants make their own food and the different food groups that humans eat.

In Geography, we learned about counties and used the iPads to research our own county of Cheshire and the landmarks that can be found there. We learned that topographical maps show us how high land is using different colours and we used our learning to identify hilly and mountainous areas of the UK. We also used aerial views and OS maps to look at the Anderton Boat Lift and surrounding area in preparation for our trip.

A big congratulations too for all your hard work on Sports Day Team 3- you worked really hard and did yourselves proud!
