Team 3: 9.11.18

Date: 10th Nov 2018 @ 11:10am

Well what a week we've had! This week our learning has been all about World War 1 to commemorate the centenary of the end of the war. We have really enjoyed learning all about it and have found it a very interesting topic.

We have had visits from the homeguard where we learned all about the role of animals in the war and about all the things a soldier would have taken to war in his kit bag. We also got to meet Molly the dog and learned that animals who died in the war are remembered with a purple poppy alongside the red poppies for the soldiers. On Friday, we enjoyed our drama workshop which taught us all about how the war started and the countries that were involved through dramatisations.

In Team 3, we focussed on the story of Sergeant Stubby, who was a dog that went to the battlefield with the American soldiers. He, like many other dogs, were trained to look for injured men, signal when there was a gas attack coming and alert soldiers when the enemy was approaching. We wrote some excellent haiku poems about his experience at the trianing camp, on the battlefield and at the victory parade which we were all very proud to share. We then designed and made medals from felt on Friday to commemorate Sergeant Stubby and other people that we honour in our lives.

In Maths, we have begun our next unit, addition and subtraction, in which we will first focus on adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s mentally with 3-digit numbers and  then move on to learning the column method in a couple of weeks.

Hope you all had a relaxing break,

Miss Delaney
