Team 3 WB 12/9

Date: 16th Sep 2022 @ 2:42pm

Welcome to Team 3!

The children have settled nicely back into school and are learning the new routines in place within KS2. They are thrilled that we are one of the lucky classes who have air conditioning in our classroom (it can get a bit stuffy!) and even more thrilled that lunchtime is now 15 minutes earlier! If you can support us by pre-ordering school lunches at home with your child, that will speed up the morning registration process and we will be extremely grateful.

Since returning, we have already read one class novel (The Dancing Bear by Michael Morpurgo) and this afternoon learnt the fate of the lead character Bruno the Bear. In our reading lesson this morning, we predicted what we thought might happen at the end of the book and there were some very interesting ideas indeed. However no-one predicted what really lay in store for him. We will begin our new class novel when we return to school next week. Please continue to support your child with home reading, it is so important to their development. We need their reading records and books in every Friday (at the minimum) so that we can monitor reading and change books.

In writing, we have been learning how to correctly use contractions in our writing and how to correctly write in the past tense (making sure that we follow all the spelling rules for past tense endings). We will continue to work on these skills throughout Team 3.

In Maths, we have started a new scheme and are getting used to a new way of working. The children are embracing the new approach and it is enabling them to gain confidence and a deeper understanding of number and mathematical concepts. Today, we practised counting in 50s because we need to learn how to do this both forwards and backwards.

In science, we have started to learn about forces and magnets and have carried out 2 investigations since we returned to school. The first was to investigate what surface would be most suitable for a Formula 1 race car (we explored friction) and the second, we considered whether different types of magnets have different magnetic fields.

Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget that school is closed on Monday.
