This week in Team 3...

In English we have been studying various poetic forms, with a particular focus on Haiku poetry. The children have discovered the origins, features and rules of this style of poetry and after looking at many different examples, realised they are usually written about the seasons, nature or animals. One of the key features of this style of poem is that it is only three lines long and contains only 17 syllables (5,7,5). The children have had lots of fun learning about and writing Haikus and will be putting up some for display.

Maths - This week we have started our learning on Fractions. The focus has been to recognise fractions of shapes, moving onto fractions of amounts. We have used lots of practical resources and pictoral representations to help us solve our different challenges.

Afternoon learning / Topic - A busy week for Team 3 with our art work being completed for the upcoming exhibition. The children worked really hard and look forward to seeing the finished work in a frame. In our topic work, the children have been studying the ancient Egptian practice of Mummification. Once our research and learning was complete, the children were set the challenge of producing an 'Explanation Text' describing the various stages of the Embalming process. What a gruesome ritual we all discovered!

That's all for this week. Have a lovely weekend!
