Team 5: w/b 29.03.16

Date: 1st Apr 2016 @ 4:19pm

This week in Team 5 we have continued to work hard!

We began our mathematics this week with a focus upon scaling. The children were given a range of recipes with which they had to convert the ingredient amounts to suit different numbers of items produced. They found this a challenge at first, however they perservered and were able to utilise their skills.

We continued our poetry unit this week, focusing upon different texts from our focus poet Ted Hughes. The children used the poet's ideas to feed into their own writing, and by the end of the week everyone had produced a fantastic poem from the perspective of a lion. We also completed a cold task at the end of the week in preparation for our new fiction unit, which focuses upon fantasy portal stories. The entire class were extremely enthusiastic with this type of story focus, and I am looking forward to reading all of their ideas!

Wednesday afternoon saw the children continuing with their explanation texts, in relation to either volcanoes or earthquakes. It was great to see the children applying their learning from English towards a topic-based focus.

Towards the end of the week we had enjoyable afternoons, with Horn's Mill's Got Talent on the Thursday and a cinema afternoon on the Friday. Two members of our class managed to secure a place in the final, for which we were all extremely proud! All of the auditions and final performances were fantastic.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday, ready to return for learning in the summer term!
