Team 1 WB 13th Jan

Another busy and productive week this week in Team 1 (which is a surprise with a 'no rules day' to contend with!).
In Maths, we have been looking at the commutative law of addition and have explored fact families for given calculations - the children worked very hard on this! We have now started to explore 3D shapes and have focused on identifying cubes, cuboids, pyramids and spheres. The children have been brilliant at this and it would be great if you could support them further at home by identifying these shapes in everyday objects e.g. beds, footballs, X-Box etc. We will move onto 2D shapes next week and will see where these can be seen on the faces of 3D shapes.
For English this week, we have been learning about the prefix -un and how this can change words to their opposite meaning when applied. We have written sentences using words such as 'unloved' and 'unwanted' when describing dusty items left on a shelf in an old shop. We have also continued to focus on basic sentence punctuation (capital letters and full stops) and joining ideas together using 'and'.
In science, we started our new topic of animals including humans - we had a fantastic debate about whether humans were actually animals!
In History, we looked at how people shopped in the past - the children were shocked to find out that not everything could be bought in one shop and that the first supermarket only sold eggs, butter and milk!
In RE, we have continued to think about how the world was created. This week, we looked at The Big Bang Theory viewpoint and compared this to the Christian story of creation. We shared our ideas and did a class tally to see which viewpoint we believed. It was almost a 50/50 split!
Have a great weekend.
