Team 1 wb 17.5.21
Date: 21st May 2021 @ 6:25pm
Another busy week has come to an end in Team 1.
We have been stretching our brains in maths solving lots of addition and subtraction problems using a variety of resources to support us, such as tens frames, counters and number lines.
In literacy we reached the end of our book, ‘Toys in Space’, which the children loved. Their favourite character was the cheeky little cowboy. The book’s author, Mini Grey, replied to our Tweet telling her how much we have enjoyed her book, and she replied to say hello to Team 1 and let us know how she came up with the idea for the book!
The children have been learning more suffixes this week, including –ing and –ed, and have been practising their use of exclamation marks and question marks by writing about our class book in various ways.
We had a hunt for wild flowers in the school grounds. We discussed ‘No Mow May’ and the importance to the Earth of pollinators. Next week we will begin a flower count to see how many flowers have grown in a 1 metre square patch of grass.
In history, we explored toys, old and new. The children loved investigating different toys from the past and comparing them to modern day toys. We compared the materials used to make old/new toys, how they were made, and how they are used. We discovered that many modern day toys are made from plastic and some are electronic.
In PE we are continuing our unit on gymnastics. We learned about travelling in different ways across the floor, and had fun stretching our bodies into different shapes. The children are developing a good understanding of why exercise is important for our minds and bodies.
Have a well-earned break this weekend, superstars!
