Team 1 wb 27.9.21

Date: 1st Oct 2021 @ 6:25pm

Our week in Team 1 began with European Day of Languages. We learned some greetings in French and are now very confident in saying ‘bonjour’ and ‘bon après-midi’ for our morning and afternoon registers each day. Well done, Team 1!

We began our new class text, ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers this week. So far, we have made predictions about the book by looking at the cover and an image of a beach. We have been working hard on using finger spaces between words this week.

In maths, we have begun learning the language of ‘greater than’, ‘less than’ and ‘equal to’ in order to compare numbers within 10. We decided we would much rather have 7 ice creams than 1.

We enjoyed a French story time in the woodlands on Tuesday. We acted out the story of ‘Le Petit Chaperon Rouge’ (Little Red Riding Hood).

In Geography, we have been discovering why some parts of the earth are cold, and some are hot. We talked about the equator and packed a suitcase to go on holiday there. Then we packed another suitcase for a holiday to the South Pole. We needed quite different things!

In MyHappyMind, we have been learning all about our brains and how they help us. Today we learned that our hippocampus and prefrontal cortex go to sleep when we are scared or sad, but that with practising our happy breathing we can wake them up again so that we can function normally.

We nominated our new eco-champion, TD, who will represent Team 1 in school meetings, making decisions and planning how Horn’s Mill can be a more eco-friendly school.

Have a super weekend, Team 1!

Mrs Weeks, Mrs Butters and Miss Evans.
