It was lovely to welcome the children back after their half term break. What wonderful weather we had on our week off!
This week, we have been learning about division in maths. We have been working out how to divide a number into equal parts and have explored how many ways we can do this.
In English, we have been mapping out the beginning, middle and end of our class text. We also came up with ideas for different toys which we can include in our re-telling of the story ‘Toys in Space’. We used some great adjectives to describe our toys.
In science, we looked closely at some flowering plants which Mrs Weeks dug up. As scientists, it is our job to ask questions, and we came up with some great questions about the plants. We also labelled the plants, and wrote about the purpose of each part of the plant. We compared a magnolia flowering plant to an oak tree and found some interesting similarities and differences.
In geography, we learnt about the types of weather we find in each of the four seasons.
We celebrated our learning this week with ice creams in the sunshine for Mouse Mania.
We are really looking forward to sports day on Monday, and practiced some of our races in our PE lesson.
As previously mentioned, the statutory phonics screening check will take place next week. I will be taking each child to read a selection of real and ‘alien’ words using their phonic knowledge. This is a very low key assessment of their progress in reading so far, and your child’s result will be published with their end of year report.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs Weeks, Mr Flaherty, Miss Thomas and Miss McElhinney.
