The children have enjoyed playing board games and puzzles for our Mouse Mania today, as a reward for a busy week of work.
In English, we have been sequencing the story of Nibbles, using ‘first’, ‘next’, ‘then’ and ‘finally. We have practised using ‘and’ to join words, and using the suffixes –s or –es for plural nouns where the root word does not change.
In maths, we are working through a revision of our learning this year, and the children have really impressed us by how much they remember of their maths.
In science we began our unit on animals including humans. We brainstormed as many animals as we could think of, before sorting images of animals in different ways eg. How many legs they have. We had a discussion about animals being humans, and introduced the classifications of ‘mammals’, ‘amphibians’, ‘fish’, ‘birds’, ‘reptiles’ and ‘insects’. We played a game of charades, pretending to be animals from these different groups.
In music, we learned about ‘pulse’ and ‘beat’. We learned how to read music on a simple four-beat chart using body percussion. After practising reading this music, we created our own music to share with our friends.
In MyHappyMind, we have been learning that we can strengthen our character strengths by practising using them, and spotting them in other people.
In our circle time, we focused on how to be a good friend. We came up with our own ideas for how we can be good friends at lunchtime, breaktime and during lessons.
Have a super weekend!
Mrs Weeks, Miss Thomas and Mr Flaherty.
