Team 4 Wb 10.2.25

What another busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English work this week, we spent the week writing our very own stories based on our class text ‘Escape from Pompeii’. We read each section of the book and plotted it on a story mountain so that we could see the structure of the story. After this, we then looked at our plans that we had written last week and used them to help us develop a chronological order for our stories. We then worked carefully each day to create our story paragraph by paragraph. It was a real pleasure to read the children’s work and also hear all of their wonderful ideas!

In spelling this week, we explored the prefix –sub. We learnt how this prefix can change a root word’s meaning. You can support this learning at home by practicing the following words:
- Subheading
- Submarine
- Submerge
- Subsoil

In our math’s work this week, we began our new unit based on fractions. We explored what a fraction is and why they are used. We then explored what the top number (numerator) and the bottom number (denominator) in the fraction show us. We applied this learning to finding hundredths of different amounts and then also learnt how to write a mixed fraction and what this means. We concluded this learning by applying it to a range of everyday word problems and real life contexts.

In our afternoon learning, we continued learning to play the violin in music with Jay. In geography, we continued exploring and comparing the Bay of Naples where Pompeii is to our local area in the North West of England. In times tables we completed our weekly times tables test and in DEAR time we had the opportunity to continue reading our own chosen books.

Just a couple of reminders for the half term break:

  • Please continue reading with your child over the break. The expectation is that they have five reads logged in their reading records when they come back from the half term break.
  • When we return, we will continue preparing the class ready for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in the summer term. You can support your child at home with this by logging onto TT Rockstars and also practicing on: urbrainy.com/mtc   which is a practice MTC website so the children can familiarise themselves with the test layout.

Have a lovely half term Team 4 and a well-deserved break!
