What another busy week we have had in Team 4!
In our English learning this week, we continued reading the story about Odysseus and his encounter with the cyclops Polyphemus. We learnt how to use a range of descriptive features to describe the predicament Odysseus and his men were in and also how they were feeling. We also learnt how to use subordinating conjunctions (when, if, although, because) to help extend our sentences and add additional ideas.
In our spelling work this week, we explored a range of words linked to our new unit. You can help support this learning at home by practising the following words with your child:
- Evil
- Although
- Cyclops
- Noticed
- Siren
In our math’s learning this week, we completed our learning about multiplication and then started developing our knowledge and understanding of division. We explored what division means, the difference between ‘groups of’ and ‘equal groups’ and used a range of manipulatives in order to help us physically see what division means. We then applied all of this learning to a range of word problems to help us see division in the world around us.
In our afternoon learning, unfortunately we had a call on Thursday morning to say that there was a problem with the pool so it had been closed. Therefore, we were unable to go swimming in our PE lesson. We are expecting to go swimming again as normal this coming Thursday. In PSHE, we learnt how the Bank of England produces English monetary notes and the security features they use on these notes to prevent forgery. We then designed and created our very own bank notes! In music, we continued learning our Christmas songs ready for our Christmas markets and in French we learnt classroom commands.
Just a couple of reminders for next week:
- Reading books will be swapped on Monday. Please ensure your child brings in their book and also reading record to be checked. Please also ensure your child has logged five reads in their record for the week gone.
- On Wednesday, we have our whole school open afternoon. At 2.30pm, you are invited to come to the Team 4 classroom and look at your child’s books and see the work that they have been completing in class.
- On Thursday we have swimming as usual. Please ensure your child brings in their coat, swimming items and goggles if needed.
- This Friday is a non-uniform day. We ask that you please bring in an item to donate for the Christmas hampers.
- Mouse Mania this Friday is dodgeball in the hall. Your child does not need to bring anything in.
Kind regards
Mr Lawrie and Mrs Caroe
