Team 4 Wb 13.1.25

What another busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English work this week, we started reading our new class book ‘Escape from Pompeii’. We looked at the front cover and generated a range of questions we had about the two characters on the front cover. We then read the first two pages of the book and created a senses grid to identify what people would see, hear and smell when walking through the busy streets of Pompeii.

In spelling this week, we explored the suffix -ian. We looked at the rules for adding this suffix and learnt that when the root word ends in a ‘c’, we just add on -ian. However, if the root word ends in ‘cs’, we drop the ‘s’ and then add -ian on. You can support this learning at home by practicing the following words with your child at home:

  • Musician
  • Optician
  • Electrician
  • Magician
  • Politician

In our math’s work this week, we learnt how to use the bus stop method to divide two and three-digit numbers by a single digit number without any renaming (such as 639 / 3). We then explored calculations that required renaming and also where there would be remainders in the answer. We used lots of practical resources to support our understanding of this learning and we had the opportunity to complete lots of fluency questions to develop our speed when using this method.

In our afternoon learning, in history we explored how the Roman Army was organised and the different equipment the soldiers used. We then looked at a modern-day soldier and looked at the influences the Roman Army have had on our modern-day army. In science we continued learning about sound and created our own phone line to see and hear how sound waves travel through string that is pulled tight between two plastic cups. In myhappymind, we continued exploring appreciation and learnt why it is important to appreciate ourselves and others around us.

A couple of reminders for the week ahead:

On Monday, please ensure that your child comes to school with their reading record and book so that they can be checked/swapped. Please ensure that your child has logged five reads for the week gone.

The children will have their second violin lesson of the unit this coming Monday afternoon (all equipment is provided).

On Thursday, we have our next PE lesson. Please ensure that your child comes to school on this day in their PE kit.

Mouse Mania this coming Friday is making things out of cardboard boxes. Mrs Caroe has requested if you could please send your child in with some different sized cardboard boxes.

Have a wonderful weekend all!

Mr L and Mrs Caroe
