Team 4 Wb 14.10.24

Date: 18th Oct 2024 @ 6:37pm

What another busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English learning this week, we planned and then started writing our very own stories based upon our class text ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. We chose our own main character, what their favourite animal was and also selected an adventure for them to go on. It has been wonderful to read their stories so far and we can’t wait to see their final finished pieces on Monday when the children finish their stories.

In our spelling this week, we have been focussing on the suffix -ous and exploring root words that we can add this suffix onto. You can reinforce this learning at home by practising the following words with your child:

Famous

Poisonous

Generous

Mountainous

Dangerous

In our math’s learning this week, we have been exploring how to add two four-digit numbers together and use the column method to calculate the answer. We then applied this learning to a range of one-step and two-step word problems based upon real life contexts.

In our afternoon learning, we finally finished reading our class story The One and Only Ivan! We were very happy to find out at the end of the story that Ivan started a new life in the zoo alongside his friend Ruby the elephant. We were also amazed to discover that the story was based upon a real-life gorilla in America! You could support this learning at home by popping to the library and ordering one of the next books in this series The One and Only Bob or The One and Only Ruby by Katherine Applegate. We will start reading our new class book on Monday which the children are very excited to start.

In our topic learning, we designed our very own front covers for the non-chronological reports we are going to write about gorillas next week. In PE, we went swimming and we also completed our weekly times tables challenge.

Reminders for next week:

  1. Reading records and books will be changed on Monday. Please ensure your child’s book and record are in school on this day and that they have logged five reads in their record for the week.
  2. Don’t forget, we have a KS2 parent math’s workshop on Tuesday evening 6.50-7.30pm where Mr L will be showing parents the different methods children are learning in maths to help parents support their child’s learning at home.
  3. On Wednesday, we will be starting a new unit of learning in maths all about multiplication and division. In preparation for this, you could practise the 6, 7, 9, 11 and 12 times tables over the weekend and during the half term break to help prepare your child for this unit.
  4. Thursday will be swimming as normal.
  5. Mouse Mania on Friday is a film so the children can bring in a small bag of sweets. Please ensure no items that contain nuts are brought into school as we are a nut free school.
  6. We break up for half term at the end of the school day on Friday 25th October and return on Tuesday 5th November

Have a wonderful weekend all!

Mr Lawrie and Mrs Caroe
