What another busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English learning this week, we began reading our new class book called 'Gorilla' by Anthony Browne. We learnt that the main character in this book is called Hannah and we made some predictions based on clues in the text about what we thought might happen in the story based on some of the images from the text. We then began reading the first few pages of the story and learnt all about Hannah's life in order to set the scene for the rest of the text.

In our math's learning this week, we continued learning all about place value and how to identify and continue patterns when counting up or down in any given amount. We used practical apparatus such as counters and place value grids to help reinforce this learning. We then learnt how we can use this knowledge of place value to help with rounding numbers to the nearest thousand. We then ended the week with practising rounding numbers (focussing on the hundreds column) to round a number up or down to the nearest thousand.

In afternoon learning, we discussed the importance of kindness and respect in circle time, we completed our weekly times tables challenge, in science we continued learning about animals and their habitats and in geography we explored the compass points and learnt which countries were north, south, east and west of the United Kingdom. In PE, we completed our weekly swimming lessons at the Brio Leisure Centre in Ellesmere Port which the children loved!

Just a couple of reminders for next week:

  1. Please ensure reading records and books are brought in on Monday ready to be changed. There should be a minimum of five recorded reads in the children's reading records please.
  2. Swimming is on Thursday as usual. Please ensure children bring their swimming bags and coats in on this day.
  3. Mouse Mania next week is Toys from Home. Children can bring in toys from home (no electronics please).

Have a lovely weekend Team 4!
