What another busy week we have had in Team 4!
In our English learning this week, we read the next section of our Greek Myth book exploring the life of Odysseus. We learnt that he visited the wicked witch Circa who put a spell on his men and she turned them into pigs! Odysseus then tricked her in order to save his men and she returned them back to humans. After his ordeal with Circa, we then learnt that as he was sailing home, the evil sirens (birds with the heads of humans) tried to sing to his men so that they would fall asleep and they could eat them. Again, Odysseus tricked them and told his men to put wax in their ears so that they could not hear the sirens singing. Using these stories as our context for learning, we practiced using adverbs to describe different scenes from the story, using a range of subordinating conjunctions to show how the sailors were feeling and also fronted adverbials to show how, when or where these events happened.
In our spelling work this week, we practiced adding the suffix -ing. We discussed that when this suffix is added, it can change the spelling of the root word. You can support this learning at home by practicing the following words with your child:
- flying
- singing
- laughing
- caring
In our afternoon learning, in computing, we explored different agencies that can help us if we have concerns about someone’s behaviour online. We learnt who the NSPCC are and how they help children stay safe online. We also learnt about ChildLine and the services they offer to children should they ever need it. We also completed our weekly times tables challenge, ordered new books from the library for our reading corner and also learnt where Greece is on a map and what the capital city of this country is. In PE, we also went swimming at the local leisure centre.
A couple of reminders for next week:
Reading books will be swapped on Monday and records checked. Please ensure that your child brings in their reading record/book on this day and that they have logged five reads for the week gone.
After our recent victory over Team 6, we have started our new TT Rockstars battle this time against Team 5. Please ensure that your child logs onto TT Rockstars each day for 15 minutes to help our class win AGAIN!
Next Thursday (28th) we won’t be swimming as we will be visiting the Grosvenor Museum in Chester followed by the Chester Christmas markets. Please ensure your child brings a warm coat, a packed lunch on this day and a drink. Important: Please remember that we are a nut free school.
On Friday we have a non-uniform day in order to collect bottles for our bottle tombola. Your child can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for a bottle for our bottle tombola.
Mouse Mania next Friday is dancing so your child does not need to bring anything in.
Have a lovely weekend Team 4!
