What another busy week in Team 4!

In our English learning this week, we continued reading our class book ‘Escape From Pompeii’. We discovered that the tremors continued which made our two main characters Liv and Tranio very nervous. Once we had read this, we then created a range of descriptive pieces detailing what happened when the tremors occurred. We then discovered that after the tremors, the sky turned dark and ash blanketed the sky leading to the sun being blotted out. Again, we created a descriptive piece of writing to describe the events and how the inhabitants of Pomepii would have felt when this happened.

In spelling, this week we explored the prefix -anti. We learnt how this prefix, when added to a root word changes a words meaning. We looked at the rules for adding this prefix to root words and then practiced adding it to a range of given root words. You can support this learning at home by practicing the following words with your child at home:

  • Antifreeze
  • Antisocial
  • Anticlockwise
  • Antiseptic
  • Anticlimax

In maths, we continued learning about graphs. We explored how to read and interpret data presented in a range of forms and then how we can present this data in a range of graphs. We explored bar graphs, pictograms and line graphs and practiced plotting given data on these different types of graphs.

In our afternoon learning, we continued exploring our myhappymind unit ‘appreciate’. We learnt why it is important to appreciate others around us and ways we can express this appreciation. In happy breathing, we continued practicing our breathing techniques to help us regulate our emotions. In science, we continued exploring sound and how it travels whilst in PE we continued developing our understanding of teamwork.

A couple of reminders for the week ahead:

Please ensure that reading records are brought in on Monday so that they can be checked and swapped.  Please also ensure that your child has logged five reads for the week gone.

On Monday morning, we are also going to be completing a ‘Let’s Walk’ workshop with our local PCSO. In this workshop, we will learn about the importance of road safety, how to assess whether a road is safe to cross and then practice this on the road coming into school. Please ensure that your child brings a warm coat on Monday as they will be outside for a large part of the morning.

On Thursday afternoon, we will be attending a workshop in school focussed on neurodiversity which links to our whole school week long theme about mental health and neurodiversity. As a result of this workshop, we would kindly ask that children come to school in their normal school uniform and not their PE kits on this day.

On Friday, our Mouse Mania is toys from home. Children can bring in a toy from home on this day (no electronics please).

Have a lovely weekend
