What another busy week we have had in Team 4!
In English, the children spent the week writing their very own stories based on the class text ‘When the Giant Stirred. The children spent time working on each paragraph creating a detailed description of their own islands before introducing the tribes people that lived on their islands. Following this, the children then wrote about how their own islands began to stir which caused the people that lived on the island to flee before the volcano erupted! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the children’s work so far and can’t wait to see how they conclude their stories next week.
In spelling this week, the class have been exploring the prefix -inter. The children learnt how this prefix changes a root word’s meaning and used this word in a range of sentences to familiarise themselves with using the prefix independently. You can support this learning at home with your child by practising the following words:
- International
- Intercity
- Interact
- Internet
- Interlock
- Intergalactic
In maths this week, the children continued their learning about time. They specifically focussed on learning how to convert between different units of time. For example:
- There are 60 seconds in a minute
- There are 60 minutes in an hour
Using this knowledge, the children then applied this understanding to a range of real-life problems. You could support this learning at home by asking your child to answer some of the following questions and then discussing their answer with them:
- How many seconds are in 3 minutes?
- How many seconds are in 10 minutes?
- How many seconds are in 5 minutes?
- How many minutes are in 2 hours?
- How many minutes are in 4 hours?
- How many hours in 120 minutes?
In Team 4’s afternoon learning, the class learnt how to say different animal names in French such as cat, dog and snake. They also completed an analysis of their volcano drawings in art and an evaluation of the skills they have learnt throughout this unit with Mrs Coman-Jones. In geography, the class used infiltrometers to explore how different soils around school allow for water filtration and in computing, the children started building their very own volcanic activity detectors using Lego.
Just a couple of reminders for next week:
- Due to the long weekend caused by the bank holiday, we have carried over the classes PE lesson to the following week where we will complete a longer session so the children don’t miss out. Therefore, your child does not need to come in to school in their PE kit next week. Then it will be back to normal in their PE kits the following Monday (13th May)
- Please ensure your child brings in their reading record and book to be checked and swapped on Tuesday when they return.
- Mouse Mania next week is school IPads and laptops so your child does not need to bring anything in.
Have a wonderful long bank holiday weekend Team 4!
Mr L
