What another busy week we have had in Team 4!

In our English learning this week, we finished reading our class book ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. We learnt that after Hannah’s toy gorilla had come to life, she went on an adventure with it to the zoo and also went for some tea! We plotted the different sections of the story on a ‘story mountain’ so we could see how the story builds. We then created our emotion graphs to see how the excitement builds as the story progresses. Alongside this, we also spent time developing our knowledge and understanding of how to add the suffix –ed to a root word and the spelling rules for this. You can support this learning at home by practicing the following words with your child:

  • Baked
  • Carried
  • Walked
  • Hopped
  • Asked

In maths this week, we started a new unit which focused on subtraction. We explored different terms for the word subtract and used practical apparatus to help us to see what subtraction does to a base number. We then used our knowledge of the column method from addition, to help us to start subtracting two four-digit numbers.

In our afternoon learning, in geography, we used the IPads to research information about gorillas in preparation to write our very own non-chronological reports about them. In PE, we went swimming at the Brio Leisure Centre, we completed our usual weekly times tables challenge and also in French we created posters to help label different objects around the classroom. We also discovered the results of our recent TT Rockstars battle with Team 6. We were delighted to learn that we beat Team 6!!! Well done Team 4! 

Just a couple of reminders for next week:

  1. Reading records will be checked and books swapped on Monday. Please ensure that your child brings both of these in on Monday and that they have also logged their five reads for the week.
  2. Clubs resume next week as usual after the break for Parent’s Evening week.
  3. Thursday is swimming as usual. Please ensure your child brings in their coat and swimming kit on this day.
  4. Mouse Mania on Friday is playing in the woodlands. The children do not need to bring anything in for this.
