What a busy week we have had in Team 4!
In our English learning this week, we have been busy developing a range of skills in preparation to start our writing unit next week based on the book ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. This week we practised using list sentences to add description to ideas. We learnt where to place the comma in a list sentence and then practised using a range of adjectives to build a picture in the reader’s mind. We also revisited using adverbs and learnt how they can help add description to a sentence. We then applied this learning to an independent write by creating a paragraph all about a troll taken from a film clip that we watched.
In spelling this week, we practised the following common exception words:
Busy
Often
Fruit
You can help reinforce this learning at home by practising spelling them with your child.
In maths this week, we continued developing our knowledge and understanding of place value. Using practical apparatus, the children explored what each digit represented in a range of four-digit numbers. Using this knowledge, they then practised ordering a range of given four-digit numbers in order to ascertain which was the greatest and the smallest.
In afternoon learning, the children learnt about OS maps in geography and explored both topographic and satellite maps and analysed the differences and similarities between the two. In French, the children learnt how to use simple classroom language and then created their very own posters to be displayed around the classroom. In times tables, the children completed their weekly times tables test and in PE the children completed their very first swimming lesson.
Just a couple of reminders for next week:
After school clubs start this week.
Reading books will be changed on Monday. Please ensure that your child brings both their reading record and book to be checked and swapped on this day.
Please remember that the children are expected to complete five reads each week and record them in their reading records.
We will be swimming again on Thursday. Please ensure you have paid for this session and that your child comes to school in their normal school uniform, a coat and brings their swimming kit in a named bag.
Mouse Mania next week is colouring. The children do not need to bring anything in with them.
Have a wonderful weekend Team 4!
