This week has seen some of the children's best work this year. We donned our archaeological hats and examined some ancient Anglo Saxon artefacts. We asked questions that historians use to work out more information about the mysterious objects they find. We found helmets disguised as swords, brooches disguised as shields, and even an entire stained glass window! Some of the religious artefacts led onto some scintillating discussions about the spread of Christianity, the Romans, and how AD became CE.
In Maths, we loved using a Gattegno board for the first time to add and subtract powers of 10 in pairs. In SMSC, we discussed taxation and worked out how we we raise taxes and where we would spend them. Each group had to prepare a presentation to convince the rest of the class, then we held a secret ballot. Some of the speech-making was very persuasive!
Grace Sharpes and Alyx completed their Talking Bag presentations. Everyone was blown away by Grace's paintings - check out Twitter to catch a glimpse of them!
Unfortunately, the Monkey Orchid seeds didn't work out, so instead, the children enjoyed free choice time in class. We've ordered a range of seeds - from cactus to poppies - and we'll be planting them next week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
