Team 5: w/b 19.9.16

This week in Team 5, continued our learning about the Anglo-Saxons, our focus topic. The children created timelines to document key events within and beyond the Anglo-Saxon invasion, using their own research to help them. We also learnt about what life was like for an everyday villager in those times.
In Mathematics, we continued with our place value unit. We focused upon adding and subtracting different amounts of powers of ten from six-digit numbers. The children are beginning to have a firm grasp on their understanding of the numbers in each column and what they represent.
We finished our Ted Hughes poetry unit this week, and I was extremely impressed with the poetry written as part of our hot task. The children had really taken on board all of our learning and have written poems of a high quality. We also began the cold task for our next fiction unit, focusing upon journey stories.
In Music, the children began playing either guitars, banjos, mandolins or violins. They thoroughly enjoyed the session, and we are all looking forward to this being a regular Wednesday afternoon slot for the coming weeks.
I hope you have all had an enjoyable weekend, and see you next week.
Miss Martin
