Team 5: w/b 21.03.16
Date: 24th Mar 2016 @ 10:00am
This week in Team 5 we began our new poetry focus in English. We are looking at animal poetry from famous poet Ted Hughes, with the hope of creating our own by the end of next week! The children have really taken to picking apart our focus text 'Hawk Roosting', inferring meaning and learning new vocabulary.
Within Mathematics, we have been focusing upon place value with particular attention to decimal numbers. The children are now secure in their understanding of decimal numbers both in worded form and in number form, and are applying these skills towards problem solving. Today we had a times table focus for our lesson (with particular focus on the inverse), for children to identify their own next steps ready for the new-style homework that will be set next week.
Our Monday afternoon was extremely enjoyable with a Music focus. The children learnt the lyrics to 'Don't Stop Believing' by Journey; it generated a wonderful positive atmosphere and united the class. The rest of the week our afternoons have had a volcanoes and earthquakes focus, with children transferring and applying skills from English to plan for an explanation text about their chosen natural disaster.
Wednesday was a fantastic day for Team 5, as well as the school: the Daily Mile Launch! As a class we were able to showcase the Daily Mile to the rest of the school, for which the children presented themselves as absolute role models. We felt like mini celebrities, running round the playground for our school and visitors to see! We also had our final group session of ukulele practise. It will be a shame to see these lessons come to an end, however we are hoping many children will have been inspired to continue to learn!
I hope you all have a lovely long weekend, and see you all next Tuesday!
