Team 5 w/b 21.5.18
Date: 25th May 2018 @ 3:56pm
This week was a week of eruptions, computing and boating for Team 5!
We used Scratch Jr to make algorithms which we then debugged and explained. Later in the week, we witnessed some truly tremendous eruptions as 10 children in the class brought in a working model of a volcano for their Home Learning! We learned about changing the states of materials and how some changes are irreversible as we added vinegar and citric acid to bicarbonate of soda to make our volcanoes bubble! We learned that the process releases gas, and that this gas causes the expansion of the resulting material. We found that the smaller the hole from the magma chamber to the top, the more explosive the eruption because of the increased pressure!
We also used Lego coding to make tadpoles that slithered and eventually turned into froglets that croaked! On the final day of the half term, we were visited by Cathriona from the Daniel Adamson Society. She talked to use about a restored steamboat named The Danny which we'll be taking a school trip on after half term. She told us about the history and geography surrounding The Danny, and we played a brilliant artefacts memory game with items from the boat. We can't wait for our trip!
Next week's Mouse Mania is the field.
Have a wonderful half term!
