Team 6 - WB 7.9.20
Date: 13th Sep 2020 @ 7:05pm
Well, what a great first week!
We were a bit tired towards the end of the week but battled our way through and tried really hard. We were so busy getting on with it that we forgot to write the class blog (too busy dancing during Mouse Mania!!) Next week, our class blog team will write the class blog and let you know what we've been up to all week.
Throughout the week, we have been getting back into the swing of school life and building back up our stamina in lessons. We have got back into reading and had some DEAR time across the week, as well as enjoying our class book 'Crater Lake' that we are all thoroughly enjoying, You may want to ask your child about this creepy and hilarious book at home. Team 6 have been told about their expectations for reading at home. This is 5 times a week for at least 15 minutes. They know it is their responsibility to write in their reading record at least once a week. There were a few missing this week, so it would be great if you could check that your child has their reading record/note book in for next Thursday.
As part of our writing, we have been recapping some of our punctuation and grammar skills from Team 5, ready to start our new unit next week. I am very impressed with how hard everyone is trying!
In Maths, we are working on Place Value up to 10 million. Team 6 have been using concrete materials to help them understand these numbers and we have been taking part in various fluency and reasoning challenges. Over the week, we have also been practisig our times tables and it was definitely an area that most children in Team 6 would benefit from working on. Don't forget that we pay for a TTRockstars subscription for everyone in school. If you have misplaced or forgotten your login details, just let me know. Being abke to recall timestables will help them with all aspects of Maths.
We've been having whole class reading (WCR) sessions every day and this week our focus was our first Spotlight Author, Emma Carroll. Some children have chosen one of her books as their class read. This may be an author that you choose to read at home with each other as the class hadn't heard of her before and she has some great books! Somerset Tsunami is the latest and we read an extract of this during WCR - it went down very well!
We've also managed to have a lot of fun this week and it is great seeing some of Team 6s personalities shining through!
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and I will see you tomorrow for what I am sure will be another super week!
