Nearing the end of another busy week in Reception!
The children have really enjoyed really getting to grips with our class text this week - The Pirates are coming! We have read and re read the story, acted it out, retold the story using our Mighty Writer mat and finally used our phonics skills to write the story. Wow! The children have really enjoyed this and it has been a joy to see them so engaged in the story! Maths this week has been all about parts and whole. Using the song Heads, Shoulders Kness and toes we learned that our head is a part of us, but the whole of us is _________ (enter name!) This will help us learn that we can use parts to make numbers such as 5 and 2 make 7. The children's subitising skills this week have been outstanding too!
Space has been our child led topic and this has really caught their imagination. Saturn with its ring was a firm favourite! National science week has helped us looked at sustainability too and the children have produced some lovely work on forest animals. To finsh the week we also enjoyed looking at Elmer the Elephant who was decorated all sort of colours! This will link into our whole school 'Holi' colour run on Friday - don't forget your childs change of old light coloured clothes please!
See you all next week at parents evening - don't forget to book on!
