Team 3 wb 7.2.22

Date: 11th Feb 2022 @ 12:58pm

There's been a lot of rocks in Team 3 this week.. rocks in soils, rocks in Mesolithic tools, rocks in neolithic houses but I guess that's why it's called the Stone Age as Team 3 pointed out!

On Monday we had the opportunity to handle a range of replica tools from the Paleolithic and Mesolithic such as arrow heads, knives and hand axes. We watched clips from David Attenborough's 'Mammoth Graveyard' to see how the tools would have been made by flint knapping with antlers and other stones. We discussed whether early humans could have hunted a mammoth and what problems they might have faced-we all enjoyed some fake spear throwing outside!

On Wednesday we became archaeologists, looking at images of the discoveries at Skara Brae on Orkney, and tried to use what we know about the lives of Stone Age people to identify what was in their houses. We did a very good job at recognising a fire pit in the middle and what could have been their beds.

We have also been testing soil types this week and playing call and response ryhthms on glockenspiels in partners- what a lot of fun!

In maths, we have been learning how to use the grid method to solve 2 digit by 1 digit multiplications and in English, we have now finished our book 'Winter's Child' and begun to recap and plan in order to write our own versions next week. How exciting!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
